I pretty much never post about politics or how I’m actually feeling, but I feel it is important to share my thoughts in the way I want to share them. Here we go:
I need to believe there is more love and compassion in the US than there is hate. I need to know that people are capable of change. That cultures and societies are capable of long lasting immutable change that benefits the livelihoods of its citizens.
I need to know that all of the hope I’m seeing right now isn’t just a moment, but it’s the beginning of a new reality that lasts beyond my lifetime.
I need to know that there are others out there who feel this way because the alternative is too heartbreaking. I need to know that people who feel as I do constitute the majority in this country.
Don’t tell me it’s OK. It’s not. We’re not done. We will never be done. We need to think differently, acknowledge the past and say, “Never again.” Even then, we will make the same mistakes, but hopefully less frequently. And hopefully we’ll acknowledge some things are mistakes.
Tell me if others feel the same. If you feel the same. And maybe it won’t be so hard to fall asleep at night.
I shared the above on Facebook and over 34 people responded with care, love and solidarity. Thank you. Understanding that others feel as I do has helped.
